SOLOS

Dancer: Mia Atrio

Music

Each movement in my dance has a greater meaning. For my piece specifically, each movement can symbolize letting go of chaos while others can symbolize bringing in joy, so pretty much letting go of the bad and bringing in the good. The story of my script is just letting go of any chaos in life. The theme is brining joy into life and letting go of any negative/bad things in life.

The kinesphere plays an important role in dance as well as the space used in the dance outside of my kinesphere. Since the solo is a way for dancers to explore and create, that it is what I wanted in my solo in terms of the space that I take up when I dance.

Mental Vacation

Dancer: Joe Contillo

Music: Fluke (Original Mix) by Twibak

https://youtu.be/u7I9UgXmVh4

My piece is about how much I have learned about dance being strongly connected to the mind. If you are thinking of anything other than the present moment and not all there mentally, you will not be all there physically. My solo piece is utilizing all I've learned this semester about really honing in on my dancing and being all there mentally. We deal with a lot of stressors through our day-to-day life's and I now see dancing as a way for us to express ourselves with all our built-up emotions to leave it all on the dance floor. We need to learn and master how to take a "mental vacation" when we want to truly express ourselves on the dance floor to our full capabilities.
